The first time you open Aria’s installer, Windows shows a blue box. Here is what it says, why it says it, and the two clicks that get you through.
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.
App: Aria-Setup.exe
Publisher: Unknown publisher
This is not Windows telling you Aria is dangerous. Windows has not scanned Aria and found something — it is telling you it hasn’t seen Aria enough times yet.
Microsoft counts how many people have installed a program. Below a certain number, every new program gets this screen, no matter who made it. Aria is new, so it is below that number. The warning fades as more churches install it, and the churches installing it early are the reason it fades.
Fair question to ask of any download. Two things to check:
The fingerprint is for whoever looks after your computers, if you have someone. They can confirm the file is byte-for-byte the one we published by opening Command Prompt in the Downloads folder and running:
certutil -hashfile Aria-Setup.exe SHA256
And the other half of that: if someone sent you Aria as an email attachment or a message, don’t run it — whatever this page says. Download it from ariascreen.com yourself. We would rather you ignored us than trusted a file we didn’t give you.
Aria is a large program — it carries its own Bible library and speech engine so it keeps working when the church wifi doesn’t. Expect around 20 minutes, and let it finish before opening it.
